Bio
Population II is a band committed to disengagement, working with unwavering steadfastness on refining an imposing yet unpretentious sound. The trio is a master of both improvisational madness and refined composition, offering heavy psychedelic rock embellished with the feverish rhythms of funk, the philosophy of jazz, the boundless energy emanating from the early days of punk, and a marked love of minor scales reminiscent of the ancestry of heavy metal.
Last March, the trio released their third opus, Maintenant Jamais. Under the guidance of producer Dominic Vanchesteing, the fracas of their previous releases is structured and sharpened. On this new album, the band fine-tunes the singular style they've been developing for several years now, thanks in part to a fusion of shared influences - from Soft Machine to MC5 to L'Infonie - but also to a rare complicity that can only blossom between such good chums. It's because of this same creative chemistry that the band's complex compositions seem so fluid and supple. Population II transgresses its own limits without ever derailing the convoy.
